The TC-100 Porcelain Neon Housing is the largest-diameter housing commonly used in the sign industry. Its deep-draw design accommodates most electrode sizes, including longer electrodes. While the TC-100 housing is most often used for outdoor installations, it is also suitable for indoor signs. These housings safely transfer high voltage from the neon transformer to the neon tubes.

Many installers choose the TC-100 housing because its larger opening provides more flexibility during installation. Neon patterns are designed to account for both the shape of the bent neon tubing and the placement of the housings. Because neon tubing is handmade, slight variations can occur. In addition, small differences in housing placement may happen during sign cabinet installation. The larger opening of the TC-100 housing makes it easier to align and insert the electrodes when mounting the neon tubes.

The TC-100 housing features an internal spring that carries high voltage from the neon transformer. A neon electrode fitted with a brass button or brass cap is inserted into the housing, where it contacts the spring to receive power. This spring-loaded design also simplifies neon tube maintenance and replacement, making both faster and easier.

Because neon signs have been manufactured for more than 100 years, some vintage signs may have mounting holes larger than those required for a standard TC-100 housing. For these applications, we offer Neon Housing Collars, which allow the TC-100 housing to fit securely into oversized mounting holes. Please refer to our Housing Accessories page for ordering information.

Model: TC-200 *complete
Glass Housing equivalent: #200
The TC-200 Porcelain Neon Housing is the most commonly used housing in the Sign Industry. It features the deepest draw of standard housings, which allows it to accommodate a wide range of electrode sizes, including longer electrodes.

A TC-200 housing is typically used in outdoor neon installations, but it can - and is - used for indoor signs. These housings provide a safe and reliable way to transfer high voltage from a neon transformer to the neon tubes.

Inside the TC-200 housing is a spring-loaded contact that carries high voltage from the transformer. A neon electrode fitted with a brass button or brass cap is inserted into the housing, where it connects with the internal spring to receive power. This spring-loaded design also makes neon tube installation, maintenance, and replacement faster and easier.
Because the TC-200 housing is so widely used in neon signage, vintage sign restorations often already include mounting holes sized for it. If larger mounting holes are present, we offer Neon Housing Collars to adapt the housing to those openings. Please refer to our Housing Accessories page to order the collars.

Model: #TC-50 Porcelain Housing
Glass Housing equivalent: #200P "Peanut"
The TC-50 Porcelain Neon Housing is a specialized version of the standard TC-200 housing. These housings are also known as “peanut” housings because of their size. While the TC-50 uses the same mounting hole and has the same front-facing appearance as a standard TC-200s, its key difference is its shallower depth.

This reduced depth is important when working with unusually shallow sign bodies or sign cabinets. A standard TC-200 housing may bottom out inside a shallow cabinet, making installation impossible. More importantly, the high-voltage connection is located at the back of the housing, so adequate clearance must be maintained between the connection and the metal sign body to prevent electrical arcing.
Because the TC-50 housing is shallower, electrode selection is important. Long electrodes are generally not recommended, since they may bottom out before the neon tube can be properly mounted onto the tube supports.

Inside the TC-50 housing is a spring-loaded contact that carries high voltage from the transformer. A neon electrode fitted with a brass button or brass cap is inserted into the housing, where it connects to the internal spring contact to receive power. This spring-loaded design also makes neon tube installation, maintenance, and replacement quicker and easier.
For vintage signs with oversized mounting holes, Neon Housing Collars are available to adapt the TC-50 housing to the larger openings. Please refer to our Housing Accessories page for ordering information.

Model: TC-300 Porcelain Housing
Glass Housing equivalent: #300 Spring Type
The TC-300 Porcelain Neon Housing is distinguished by its open slots at the base of the housing. Similar to the #300 Glass Housing, it is commonly used in outdoor sign applications, particularly in regions with frequent rain and high insect activity, such as Seattle.
Because illuminated neon tubes attract flying insects, bugs can sometimes enter the electrode housing. The TC-300's open-bottom design allows insects to fall into the sign cabinet rather than accumulate inside the housing. This helps prevent blockages that could trap moisture during wet weather and create conditions that may lead to electrical arcing.

The TC-300 provides ample internal depth, allowing it to accommodate most standard neon electrodes. However, because it is a standard-depth housing, sufficient clearance must be maintained between the electrical connection and any metal portions of the sign cabinet to minimize the risk of arcing. Proper planning and installation are essential.

Inside the housing is a spring-loaded contact that carries high voltage from the transformer. A neon electrode equipped with a brass button or brass cap is inserted into the housing, where it makes contact with the internal spring and receives power. This spring-loaded design also simplifies neon tube installation, maintenance, and replacement.

Some installers choose to remove the internal spring assembly and use a custom pigtail wire instead. The pigtail wire is routed through one of the housing's bottom slots, and the neon electrode wires are connected directly to it during installation. Once the electrical connection is completed, the neon tube is secured to the sign structure using appropriate tube supports.

Porcelain Neon Housings
The Porcelain Neon Housings have played an important role in traditional neon sign construction. Designed as a high-voltage electrode housing, it provides a safe, durable connection point for neon tubing inside metal sign cabinets. Made from electrical-grade porcelain with a spring-loaded contact assembly, the Porcelain Neon Housing line offers reliable insulation, weather resistance, and easy servicing, making it a standard component in commercial neon signs throughout the mid-to-late twentieth century.

Commonly used in channel letters, cabinet signs, and roadside displays, the Porcelain Neon Housing helped safely support the high voltages required for neon lighting. Their glazed porcelain bodies resisted heat, moisture, and UV exposure, contributing to the longevity and iconic glow of vintage American neon signage.

Today, Collectors, Restorers, and Neon Artisans continue to value traditional porcelain housings for both their timeless appearance and historical authenticity - reminiscent of neon signs of urban America, illuminating theaters, diners, motels, gas stations, and roadside attractions. Their unmistakable vintage character recalls an era when neon transformed city streets into vibrant works of light and color. Whether restoring a historic sign or preserving the craftsmanship of classic neon construction, Ventex Porcelain Neon Housings remain a respected symbol of enduring quality, nostalgia, and the golden age of illuminated advertising.
