Model: #100 Glass Housing
The #100 neon electrode receptacle is the largest-diameter housing commonly used in the sign industry. Its deep-draw design accommodates most electrode sizes, including longer electrodes. While the #100 housing is most often used for outdoor installations, it is also suitable for indoor signs. These housings safely transfer high voltage from the neon transformer to the neon tubes.

Many installers choose the #100 housing because its larger opening provides more flexibility during installation. Neon patterns are designed to account for both the shape of the bent neon tubing and the placement of the housings. Because neon tubing is handmade, slight variations can occur. In addition, small differences in housing placement may happen during sign cabinet installation. The larger opening of the #100 housing makes it easier to align and insert the electrodes when mounting the neon tubes.

The #100 housing features an internal spring that carries high voltage from the neon transformer. A neon electrode fitted with a brass button or brass cap is inserted into the housing, where it contacts the spring to receive power. This spring-loaded design also simplifies neon tube maintenance and replacement, making both faster and easier.

Because neon signs have been manufactured for more than 100 years, some vintage signs may have mounting holes larger than those required for a standard #100 housing. For these applications, we offer #100 Neon Housing Collars, which allow the #100 housing to fit securely into oversized mounting holes. Please refer to our Housing Accessories page for ordering information.

Model: #200 Glass Housing
The #200 neon electrode receptacle is the most commonly used housing in the Sign Industry. It features the deepest draw of standard housings, which allows it to accommodate a wide range of electrode sizes, including longer electrodes.

A #200 housing is typically used in outdoor neon installations, but it can - and is - used for indoor signs. These housings provide a safe and reliable way to transfer high voltage from a neon transformer to the neon tubes.

Inside the #200 housing is a spring-loaded contact that carries high voltage from the transformer. A neon electrode fitted with a brass button or brass cap is inserted into the housing, where it connects with the internal spring to receive power. This spring-loaded design also makes neon tube installation, maintenance, and replacement faster and easier.
Because the #200 housing is so widely used in neon signage, vintage sign restorations often already include mounting holes sized for it. If larger mounting holes are present, we offer #200 Neon Housing Collars to adapt the housing to those openings. Please refer to our Housing Accessories page to order the collars.

Model: #200P Glass Housing
The #200P neon electrode receptacle is a specialized version of the standard #200 housing. The “P” stands for “peanut” housing. While the #200P uses the same mounting hole and has the same front-facing appearance as a standard #200, its key difference is its shallower depth.

This reduced depth is important when working with unusually shallow sign bodies or sign cabinets. A standard #200 housing may bottom out inside a shallow cabinet, making installation impossible. More importantly, the high-voltage connection is located at the back of the housing, so adequate clearance must be maintained between the connection and the metal sign body to prevent electrical arcing.
Because the #200P housing is shallower, electrode selection is important. Long electrodes are generally not recommended, since they may bottom out before the neon tube can be properly mounted onto the tube supports.

Inside the #200P housing is a spring-loaded contact that carries high voltage from the transformer. A neon electrode fitted with a brass button or brass cap is inserted into the housing, where it connects to the internal spring contact to receive power. This spring-loaded design also makes neon tube installation, maintenance, and replacement quicker and easier.
For vintage signs with oversized mounting holes, #200P Neon Housing Collars are available to adapt the housing to the larger openings. Please refer to our Housing Accessories page for ordering information.

Model: PK Housing Complete
These classic PK neon housings are commonly used in commercial signage applications such as channel letters, raceways, and exposed neon installations. Each PK housing features an inner borosilicate glass insert with molded threads that securely fasten into an outer metal jacket. The metal jacket is threaded at the base to accept ½” conduit, allowing safe routing of high-voltage GTO neon wire.

Inside the glass housing, the installer connects a brass spring-loaded assembly to the end of the GTO wire. This assembly allows the neon electrode — fitted with a brass button or brass cap — to make reliable contact with the high-voltage power supplied by the neon transformer.

The glass insert is the true insulating component of the PK housing, acting as the dielectric barrier. The outer metal jacket is designed to protect and support the glass insert, isolate the high-voltage electrode from the metal sign body, and provide a durable conduit-style wiring connection.

For outdoor installations, the use of a front cap is strongly recommended. The front cap seals the opening around the neon tube, helping prevent insects and debris from entering the housing. Since illuminated neon tubes attract flying insects, debris buildup inside the housing can trap moisture during rain, potentially leading to electrical arcing hazards.

Model: #200 Bushing
The #200 Bushing Neon Electrode Receptacle is a specialized version of the standard #200 Housing. It uses the same mounting hole and maintains the same front-facing appearance as the standard #200, but with one important difference: the back is completely open and does not include an electrified spring contact for the electrode. Instead, wiring is typically completed by hand inside the sign cabinet directly to the electrode.

Even compared to the already shallow #200P, the #200 Bushing reduces installation depth by approximately another inch, making it ideal for extremely shallow sign cabinet applications.
Because the back of the #200 Bushing is fully open, electrode length is limited only by the depth of the sign cabinet itself. With proper preplanning, this design can provide added flexibility for challenging installations.

For vintage signs with oversized mounting holes, #200 Bushing Neon Housing Collars are available to adapt the housing to larger openings. Please refer to our Housing Accessories page for ordering information.

Model: Casino Housing
“Casino Bushings” are a specialized insulating pass-through used in traditional neon sign installations, especially in large commercial signs like casino marquees, channel letters, and outline lighting systems. Despite the name, they are not limited to casinos — the term became common because Las Vegas-style neon installations used them extensively.

Some neon shops use Casino Bushings when running smaller-diameter neon tubing and electrodes instead of using it as a GTO wire pass-thru. However, because the inner diameter of the Casino Bushing is very small at 1/2", it cannot accommodate larger-diameter neon tubing.
A Casino Bushing is basically a high-voltage insulated feed-through that allows neon GTO wire to safely pass through a metal sign cabinet, raceway, or building surface without arcing. Traditional neon systems operate at several thousand volts, so ordinary rubber grommets are not sufficient. The NEC (National Electrical Code) has specific rules for neon and outline lighting installations under Article 600.

Model: #300 Glass Housing
"Spring Type"
The "Spring Type" #300 neon electrode housing features an open-back design commonly used in outdoor signs, especially in areas with high insect activity and rain (ie: Seattle). Since illuminated neon tubes attract flying insects, the open-back construction allows bugs that enter the housing to fall into the sign cabinet instead of accumulating inside the housing itself. This helps prevent blockages that could retain moisture during rain, potentially creating an electrical arcing hazard.

The “spring type” #300 housing features an internal spring that carries the high voltage from the neon transformer. A neon electrode fitted with a brass button or brass cap is inserted into the housing, where it makes contact with the spring to receive power. This spring-loaded design also makes neon tube maintenance and replacement quicker and easier.
The #300 housing uses a unique mounting hole size that differs from other neon electrode housings. When restoring a vintage sign with existing pre-punched mounting holes sized for the #300 housings, you will either need to use actual #300 housings or use our Neon Housing Collars. Our Neon Housing Collars allow the more common #200 housings to be mounted into the #300 mounting holes. Refer to our Housing Accessories page to order the Neon Housing Collars.

Some Customers have told us
that they order the #300 "Spring" type and cut the spring off. Then they attach their own pigtail wire!
Model: #300P Glass Housing
"Pigtail Wire Type"
The “pigtail wire type” #300P neon electrode housing features an open-back design commonly used in outdoor signs, especially in areas with high insect activity and rain (ie: Seattle). Since illuminated neon tubes attract flying insects, the open-back construction allows bugs that enter the housing to fall into the sign cabinet instead of accumulating inside the housing itself. This helps prevent blockages that could retain moisture during rain, potentially creating an electrical arcing hazard.
The “pigtail wire type” #300P housing features a pigtail wire that carries high voltage from the neon transformer. During installation, the neon tube’s electrode wires are connected to the pigtail wire using a pigtail wire clip. After the electrical connection is made, the neon tube is secured to the sign body with tube supports.
The #300P housing uses a unique mounting hole size that differs from other neon electrode housings. When restoring a vintage sign with existing pre-punched mounting holes, you will either need to use actual #300 housings or use our Neon Housing Collars. Our Neon Housing Collars allow the more common #200 housings to be mounted into the #300 mounting holes. Refer to our Housing Accessories page to order the Neon Housing Collars.
